DeskBud Desktop Pet

User Manual (Mac) · A little pet living on your desktop

No installer · No data collection

1What is this

Once installed, your little friend lives right on your desktop — out of your way, no babysitting needed.

🚶

Plays on its own

Strolls around, jumps, climbs walls, hangs upside down from the ceiling — and yawns, stretches and blinks. You just do your thing.

🖱️

Loves to play with you

Click it, drag it, fling it — it reacts to everything. Go ahead, it can't break.

💬

Talks in bubbles

Pops up a silly little quote now and then. Quotes update online automatically; built-in ones work offline too.

🐰🐼+

Keep a whole crew

The bunny and the panda are just the start — more pets are on the way, and they can all play on your desktop together.

🔒 No personal data is collected or uploaded — the network is only used to fetch public quotes. Use with peace of mind.

2Three steps to start

Drag it into Applications and you're done — under a minute.

1

Download & drag into Applications

Get the Mac package (.dmg or .zip), open it, and drag DeskBud into the Applications folder. Any location works, but don't run it straight from the dmg / zip — drag it out first.

2

Blocked on first open? Just allow it

The app isn't code-signed (notarized), so macOS will step in once on first launch — that's normal. If you see "cannot verify the developer", right-click DeskBud in Finder → "Open" → "Open" again; or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". Allow it once and it'll be smooth afterwards (see FAQ below for details).

3

Open DeskBud

On the very first launch, wait 1–3 seconds before your pet appears. That's normal, not a freeze. Then it starts living its life on your desktop.

3How to play

Just a few gestures — the rest is up to your pet.

🪂

Parachutesingle click

Click it lightly and it opens a parachute, drifting down slowly.

🚀

Shoot to the ceilingpress & hold

Press and hold to charge up, then release — it rockets to the top of the screen and walks around upside down.

🧶

Call it downsingle click

While it's hanging from the ceiling, click it once and it lets go — with a little bounce on landing.

💨

Fling itquick fling

Drag and fling it quickly — it flies, and on hitting the screen edge it climbs up the wall.

🤏

Drag it aroundpress & drag

Hold and drag it anywhere. Hovering the pointer over it pauses it; move away and it resumes.

📋

Menuright-click it

Walk left / right (super fast), orbit / custom circle (drag a rectangle for it to walk around), focus mode, resize, language, about; the pet wall in the upper half brings a buddy up or puts it back with one click, the pose card on the right has Adopt, and share, quit plus the website link sit at the very bottom. Trackpad users: two-finger click or Ctrl+click is right-click.

📤

Share with friendstap “Share”

There's a Share button at the bottom of the menu — tap it and you get a card you can save as an image, or copy in one click and paste straight into WeChat.

4Grow your pet crew

Tick the ones you want — more pets are coming, and your crew can keep growing.

🐰

Tick to bring them up

Right-click menu → the pet wall in the upper half → click the pets you want (the bunny and the panda for now) to bring them up. Click again to put one back — at least one must stay.

🐾

More friends on the way

More and more new pets are coming — when they launch, just click them on the pet wall and they will all play on your desktop together. Grow your crew as you like.

5FAQ

Open a question for the answer — most issues take 10 seconds to fix.

"Can't verify the developer / can't be opened"?
Normal — the app isn't notarized. Either way works:
① In Finder, right-click DeskBud → "Open" → "Open" again — right-click, not double-click;
② Or open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway".
Allow it once and it opens normally afterwards.
"Damaged and can't be opened"?
macOS labels "not notarized" apps as damaged — the app itself is fine. Open Terminal (search "Terminal" in Launchpad), paste this line and press Enter:
xattr -cr /Applications/DeskBud.app
(If DeskBud isn't in your Applications folder, replace the path with where it actually is.)
Double-click does nothing / window flashes?
First make sure you're not running it straight from the dmg / zip (drag it into Applications first). If it still won't start, check the launch log: every launch creates a .txt log file right next to the program. Send that file to the author for a quick diagnosis (contact via deskbud.net).
It blocks my work?
It always stays on top. Just drag it into a screen corner, or right-click to pause / hide it.
How do I know if it's the latest version?
The version number is in "About", and right below it there's Check Update — click it and, if a newer version exists, it asks whether to upgrade, then downloads, installs and restarts by itself. No need to go back to the download site.
💡 Tip: Your pet can't be broken, no matter how you play with it. If it does something odd, that's not a bug — that's personality.
